Who are you are and where are you from? originally from a small town in central IL but Chicago has been my home for 7 years now!

When did you first fall in love with Jesus? I grew up in a Christian family but my faith first became my own in 2005. I came to understand God's grace and what that truly meant for my life my and was totally overwhelmed by how Jesus not only died for me but sought after me!

When did you start your business/ministry/etc? In the summer of 2016 I had a crisis of faith. My best friend died by suicide. My marriage was in a very unhealthy place. Nothing made sense and I had no idea what to do. I turned to doodling through the recommendation of my therapist as a way to stay off my phone and not scroll aimlessly and really as just a way to care for myself. My doodles became letters which became calligraphy and shortly after a friend asked me to do her wedding envelopes and place cards. From there more requests came & in June 2017 I registered Delaina J Designs as a business!

Tell me about your business/ministry: Why did you start it? What does it mean to you?

This business was birthed out of a place of needing healing and distraction and has since become a place for me to creatively express myself and bring more beauty into the world. DJD was born at such a low point in my life and its growth has been congruent to my own personal healing. It is a part of me now

How has your faith impacted your business journey? God has always provided. I have been able to experience God's faithfulness through running a business.

Single or married? How has this impacted your entrepreneurial journey? I am married to my right-brained complement. My husband has helped my business become so much more profitable through his analytical way of thinking. He helps keep me grounded and focused.

What advice would you recommend to others wanting to be in ministry/biz? There's always room. Don't sit on the sidelines thinking there are already enough XYZ types of businesses. Do your research, find your focus & dive right in! Also, don't be afraid to ask for help. There are some amazing women on this page that have started some really cool companies. Don't be afraid to reach out and learn from your sisters!

What's your favorite restaurant or food? Chicago has some of the best food in the world. My current & tride and true faves are Monteverde, Duck Duck Goat, Sweetgreen, Chick Fil A & Cafe Babareeba.
