Don't Touch My Ice Cream
I remember being about 3 or 4 years old devouring a vanilla ice cream cone. Man was it good. A hot summer day and I’ve got this gorgeous creamy ice cream on a cone. This is every kids dream. Until I look up and see my mom touching MY ice cream. I snatched it away from her hand and said “NO!” She was unphased by my outburst and proceeded to touch my ice cream.
Obviously, I was deeply offended as any 3/4 year old would have been. Why was this woman touching MY ice cream cone? What I didn’t know is that she had a different perspective. See, my ice cream was slowly sliding off the cone because I had been tearing it up on one side only like any small child would do. She’d been watching me from afar and made sure to come slide it back over to secure it on the cone before it fell on the ground and ruined my whole day.
I couldn’t see what she saw. Because I was a child and didn’t have the wisdom yet to know that if you only lick one side of your ice cream, it will probably fall off the cone. But my mom did. She knew that it would hurt me way worse if I lost my whole treat in one swoop. So she stepped in, in her wisdom, and saved me. Yet I saw it as an attack. I took it as an offense. Because I didn’t understand her motive or her heart.
Had I known her intention was to help me, I would’ve probably refrained from screaming at her.
I would’ve gladly accepted the help that I didn’t realize I needed.
Maybe you see my point but just to drive it home: God is on your side. If you notice His hand on something that you love, trust Him. Even when it looks like a mess is being made or you don’t understand why the boat feels rocky. God is here to help you. Jesus came to save YOU. His intentions and plans for you are good. Don’t be so quick to get mad at God when things don’t go the way you thought. It’s safer in His hands. He has a different perspective, more wisdom, and more love for you than you could ever have for yourself. Let Him help you, beloved. Stop resisting.
